The Reimagine Alazan Courts Master Plan is a design process initiated by the San Antonio Housing Authority (SAHA) to develop a vision for the future of Alazan Courts. SAHA hired Able City, Alamo Architects, and Economic Planning Systems to engage and work with residents, neighbors, and community members to design a plan that will guide the coming investments at Alazan Courts.
HISTORY & CULTURE
The master plan met the needs of the families that live at Alazan Courts, honors the history and culture of Alazan Courts, a light and respectful impact on the environment, meets the various local, state and federal regulations, draws the necessary funding sources to make the project feasible and navigates the site challenges and constraints. The design process investigated and developed solutions of these complex issues.
The planning process started in February 2022 and concluded in November of 2022. Resident and community engagement will be at the core of each of the four phases of the design.
First the design team focused on listening to residents and community members, learning about the priorities and challenges for Alazan Courts. Additionaly, the team worked on building relationships and and engaging stakeholders so there could be open and honest communication throughout the master planning effort.
Phase 2 developed a project mission with residents and community members, which helped guide the design process. Based on ideas generated from the community, the design team will generated a number of potential design solutions.
In phase three, the design team shared several proposed master plan concepts and solicited feedback from the community. In collaboration with the San Antonio Housing Authority leadership, the final design concept was chosen.
In the final phase, the final design concept was shared with residents and community members and developed strategies to support the implementation of the master plan.
