ALAZAN COURTS MASTERPLAN
The Reimagine Alazan Courts Master Plan was a design process initiated by Opportunity Home in February of 2022 to develop a vision for the future of Alazan Courts. Opportunity Home hired Able City, Alamo Architects, and Economic Planning Systems to engage and work with residents, neighbors, and community members to design a plan that will guide the coming investments at Alazan Courts.

The goals of the planning process included: meeting the needs of families that live at Alazan Courts, honoring the history and culture of Alazan Courts, having a light and respectful impact on the environment, complying with various local, state and federal regulations, drawing the necessary funding sources to make the project feasible and navigating the site challenges and constraints. The design process aimed to investigate and develop solutions that would navigate all of these complex issues.
THE PROCESS
The planning process started in February 2022 and continued through November of 2022. Resident and community engagement were at the core of each of the four phases of the design.
First the design team focused on open-ended conversations with residents and community members, learning about the priorities and challenges for Alazan Courts. The team built relationships and stakeholders so there could be honest communication throughout the master planning effort.
Phase 2 began with developing a project mission with residents and community members, to guide the design process. Based on ideas generated from the community, the design team generated 4 different potential design solutions and presented those ideas for community feedback.
In phase three, the design team narrowed down and refined the design concepts based on the feedback from the community. In collaboration with the Opportunity Home leadership, the team and community chose a final design concept.
In the final phase, the team presented the final design concept with residents and community members and developed strategies for communities to support the implementation of the master plan.
